There is no Delete key on mac, which prevents users from quickly selecting files in a directory and simply hitting delete to remove them there's probably a way to create a shortcut key for it, but I have not bothered to figure out how.ģ. Caps Lock has an annoying default delay on mac, and I had to install a third-party application just to re-map the caps lock key and remove the delay.Ģ. I have a long list of similar minor issues specific to MacOS, some of which are seemingly intentional design rather than outright bugs.ġ. Why this is even an issue for so long is mind boggling to say the least. There is also an open source program called Ballast that you can install to fix the problem permanently this program works by quietly monitoring the audio balance in the background. Just open settings on your Mac and center the volume balance. The discussions I found are at least a couple of years old. If you Google the problem you will find limited chatter about it apparently having been an issue for more than a decade. Is this really it? I recently noticed a strange issue on MacBook Pro that had caused the volume balance to shift towards the right, seemingly, on its own. This can happen if you rapidly press the volume up or down keys while the computer's microprocessor is under heavy load. Of course this wasted one of my USB 3.0 port on the CalDigit unit, see attached screenshot as audio control is now enable with this setup. In some cases the audio balance may unexpectedly drift towards the left or right channel. Thus far, it has been working great for me. To do so, I use a CalDigit TS3 Plus to bridge the two and I use a display port cable to connect the display port on the CalDigit unit for video. If this doesn't work then you may need to use a USB to USB cable connecting to a third party device to bridge the monitor and the M1 Mac for audio and with a HDMI for video.įor me, I have an 8 year old Apple LED Cinema Display but in pristine condition so it was the USB 2 connector that needed to connect to my M1 MacBook in order to enable audio control. You may want to try to use a USB-C to USB-C connector for both video/audio as this was what the official Apple support tech had informed to use and disregard the HDMI connection. I believe the HDMI or any display connector from the monitor to a M1 Mac/MacBook is only for just that, video, and not audio. I'm no Apple expert but I have tried nearly a dozen ways of connecting the two to get them working. Very disappointed with Apple tech support in their attempt to BS their way! It's been a long process just to get the audio working with their own hardware as it shouldn't be this difficult. However, from each app with a volume control such as video/audio menu control from Youtube or Music app, I can now adjust the volume as needed.Ĭlearly, this looks to be an oversight from Apple engineering for neglecting the audio controls for LED Cinema Display on the M1 MacBooks. I tried adjusting the volume control key on my keyboard for low and high volume but it cannot be adjusted or isn't available. Audio is a few times louder than the MacBook Pro 13 speakers but under System Preference | Sound, when the LED Cinema is chosen for audio, the message, "The selected device has no output controls" is still the response. 'Cause audio was able to output through my LED Cinema Display (Mini DisplayPort version, not Thunderbolt version) as loud as it can be. So just to confirm, I spent more to further investigate and found this cable.Īnd this cable worked near perfect if not perfect. The Caldigit unit also has a built-in Displayport. For my final attempt, luckily, I have a Caldigit TS3 Plus Dock to consolidate my external drives for my new MacBook Pro 13in.
